mia w talks about the design:
To capture the depth and detail of the Japanese culture, I used a contrast of colours, which signifies each aspect of Japan. I have previously lived in Japan so wanted to include everything that makes Japan , well, Japan. The writing in the distant building is日本, meaning ‘nihon’ or ‘Japan’ in English, which acts as a summery to the perceptive of the buildings to the island of Japan that they rest on. Overall the logo was made to be simple and fun, a perfect picture to wear.

Really nice look and design, but I didn't see the relevance to Japan until I read the description. It's got great colours.
