Concept statement
I chose this particular design because I felt that the message I was trying to convey was expressed both visually and mentally. In the background of the design is a labelled diagram of a parachute. It shows how everything works together to function and then open. Is it bad that it is open? Is their any turmoil caused by it? I think the man using the parachute is happy that it functions okay. Your imagination, your goals, your aspirations... your mind needs to be open if you want these things to truly work, to fly. If you were in a parachute and it didn't function, you would fall instead of soar. Your mind is like that. Keeping it closed forever will only prevent you from achieving your true goals and using your full potential. You aren't shackled, you aren't discriminative or racist. Just open your mind and fly.
Where in the world would you go to and why?
Quebec. Because I love the French Culture, after studying the language for three years, and the whole area of Canada has always struck me as being so beautiful and clean. I researched the Province of Quebec, and it is really enthralling. It's really beautiful. I would love to go there.
Favourite stuff?
Item: My giant purple Wonka hat from the 2005 Royal Easter show. It's a long story. Pastime: Wrtiting & Drawing Person: My Mum. As Corny as it is. She's one of those uniquely kind people who never gives up on anyone. She's been through alot and I really appreciate everything she does for me. Food: Aero Chocolate Movie: The Costume and the Set Design on "Lemony Snickets- A Series of unfortunate events" were amazing and I loved it Book: "The Merlin Conspiracy"-Diana Wynn Jones Magazine: Don't have one Band: The Living End, and as a solo artist, Missy Higgins.
Three people you'd take to a desert island?
Rationally or for pure fun? I suppose we would all be doomed anyway if we were on a desert island. So Jim Carrey for laughs, Missy Higgins for music and my Dad.. for survival.
What will you be doing in 10 years?
Fame! Fortune! Bling-bling! Seriously though. My friends and I have it all planned out: 1. Live in a beautiful, snazzy apartment in Sydney, 2. go to Sydney University and get as many degrees as we can.. 3. Travel the world!
Why should you win this competition?
I don't know. Honestly I haven't seen the other nine of the top ten entries, and I'm sure they have as good a chance as me to win. I worked hard and i believe that I produced an effective deisgn, and I bet everyone else in the comp did too. I would love to get my message across I suppose. If one person, only one was inspired by it, and I mean truly inspired, then it would be all worth it. It would just be.. just great.
