Concept statement
I didn't go straight into designing. I came across the competition and thought about the theme for awhile. Throughout a week or so I would get ideas (mostly whilst daydreaming in boring classes ^^;;) and of course when you think of "exercise" you think of sport. But I thought sport was quite cliched and I never was an avid fan of sport or anything. Then one day I was talking with friends about how kids these days are so technological, they play with handheld games (one 6 year kid I know got a NDS and I only got it when I was 16!) and never play simple games like we used to. I remember having lots of fun playing hopscotch when I was little and that's how I got the idea. Later on I took the idea and started doodling on paper and came up with the basis for this design. Then I opened my trusty paintshop (newest version v.10!) and the rest is history. ^-^
Where in the world would you go to and why?
Japan!!! ^o^ Cause I just love the place, their pop culture, anime, manga, everything! I would really love the chance to go there and finally become fluent in the language cause right now I still have a loooong way to go. ^^;;
Favourite stuff?
I love anime, manga and games! Missing my PS2 very dearly everyday. >_< And designing. Especially website designing. There's nothing more fun and satisfying than messing with graphics in paint shop (cause photoshop has never sat well with me) then coding it into html and uploading it on the net as a great website layout but then you realise some things are "best viewed in IE" (meaning it's looking totally messed up on firefox) and it's back to the paint shop for some fixing up. Yep I love designing. ^_^
Three people you'd take to a desert island?
Are you serious? I hope I never get stuck (or voluntarily end up) at a desert island! o_O But anyway I'd have to say my mom, dad and sister cause if I'm going to be at some desert island we might as well go through the hard times (the fishing with your hands and sleeping on beds of leaves?) together. ^-^
What will you be doing in 10 years?
Hopefully I would have ended up in Japan somehow working in Square Enix (the best gaming company!) and possibly have become the next (or next or next next) Tetsuya Nomura! hahaha ... ^o^ in other words have become filthy rich doing something I love.
Why should you win this competition?
Because it would mean that I've become more independent and less dependent on my parents. I've stepped out and actually did something with my talents this time. I worked hard on the designs and I'm really happy one of them got into the top 10. It would give me the greatest sense of achievement if I won and also the chance to go to a place I love and to be immersed in the culture and become fluent in a language. Regardless of whatever happens I'm happy I entered this competition and got the chance to be a finalist. Thanks MYM you guys rock! ^o^
