Concept statement
The concept behind “Department Of Exercism” bases itself around exercising being a trend; which takes on the responsibility of exercising twice a week. In this current society, exercising is thought to be a monotonous act. Conversely, I intend to push the limit and undermine the mindset of exercising. Thus, I am creating an identity that exemplifies exercise as fashionable. The “Department of Exercism” is derived from the objective of creating a group of passionate people that are energized about healthy living; hence the “certified member”. As for the visual concept, the circle depicts an emblem that represents the single ideal of exercising. When designing, I also considered the practicality of marketing a t-shirt that complements other fashion apparels such as denim jeans; making it a practical purchase for the general public. The grungy appearance in the middle was also inspired by current fashion trends; if you look closely enough you see a stallion.
Where in the world would you go to and why?
6 words! French, Reconnoitre, Arts N’ Culture, Edification = Yes, France.
Favourite stuff?
I enjoy thinking deep; like a philosopher but not as deep as one. Alright, maybe not. I enjoy listening to United, Nickleback and other mainstream stuff; I do not favour any particular genre. Movies… Saw II, Hide & Seek, The Manchurian Candidate, Matrix Trilogy and Hostage. I look up to leaders like Joyce Meyer, John Steel and other not so famous people; I respect the quality of their leadership and integrity they hold. Moving on…
Three people you'd take to a desert island?
Hmmm. A wood-cutter that has a carpentry qualification; a cook specializing in natural-green ingredients with hunting experience; and finally a witty senior citizen to tell us his/her stories; maybe a veteran from the navy who knows a thing or two to of getting us out of the island.
What will you be doing in 10 years?
I will be the best husband one could be. A father of two and an advertising agency of my own. If that’s not possible, I’ll live life as I go. If the right door of opportunity is open; I will take it. God you lead.
Why should you win this competition?
It’s quite a competition; and coming up with a good answer to this question is equally competitive with what the rest have already said. I believe things like these (MYM competition) provides a great avenue for hidden talents to be exposed. So I guess winning this competition provides a greater experience that my designs have ‘accomplished’ something. Winning this also allows a kick-start, in terms of financially and motivation, to experience other countries and their culture. It’s great.
