Concept statement
Rachel’s the one featured on the shirt - my obvious inspiration - and probably the closest person to a soulmate I’ve ever had. Recently something personal didn’t go so well for her, but even so she’s done more than I’ll probably accomplish in another decade, and still going strong. I admire her way – not shying from stuff like that – because experiencing such things (the good and bad together) is what you really call living. :)
Where in the world would you go to and why?
I'd go straight to Japan if I had the chance. :D The home of anime and manga style art! *laughs* On a more serious note, I'd like to learn more about the use of honorifics and such other interesting things in their past and pop culture - I feel like I'm living in a shell at the moment. The country seems fascinating from the outside, and so much different to what we know in Australia.
Favourite stuff?
I adore the work of Nanae Kurono (who authors the Peacemaker manga), Arakawa Hiromu (author of Fullmetal Alchemist) and Obata Takeshi (artist of Hikaru no Go). My favourite movies would be the recent editions of Ocean’s Eleven, and the Italian Job. In my free time I like to draw, read comics, write, and practice with Photoshop and OpenCanvas on the computer. :D
Three people you'd take to a desert island?
A desert island, huh…? Well, I’d rather not be in that kind of situation any longer than necessary, so…I’d chose a shipbuilder, a sailor and my mum (practical woman that she is) to get out of there as soon as possible...and preferably all alive.
What will you be doing in 10 years?
An absolute dream would be working in the comic or animation industries – though I’m currently aiming for something in the general media/communications vein. Perhaps designing, perhaps teaching…something useful like that would be nice, but I don't like to think too hard. In my opinion, the future’ll come soon enough. :)
Why should you win this competition?
*laughs* I don't know I should more than anybody else here, though it would be incredible. It’s my last year of school, and I’d really love to go on an exchange program before the pressures of uni start. :) On the other hand, however it turns out, I'm stoked this design could be featured in the top ten (hats off to the voters, SEA and Asics – thanks heaps! :D)
