Concept statement
I took a very literal approach to this design, deciding to use the word "go" as the central imagery. I designed it not to be the theme but a wearable shirt using the theme. Due to its more abstract nature as the design progressed, I also added arrows etc. Often my designs didn't start off as anything in particular; it's a creative process which is unstructured and free.
Where in the world would you go to and why?
I would LOVE to visit Japan. I have lived with many different Japanese people for nearly ten years and already speak some of the language. My main reason is that the culture is so different to that of ours; it would be a wonderful experience. I would like to live and work there for a year because it would give me a greater perspective in all facets of my life and above all it would be really fun!
Favourite stuff?
Creativity. I am a new media/print designer who spends too much time tinkering in Photoshop. I enjoy nearly all types of music in particular Coldplay, Jamie Cullum, the Beatles and Schubert. I have close interest in all things in design whether it be flash websites to interior decoration. I read Desktop magazine mainly and also submit to a range of e-magazines. I always enjoy a good game of soccer although I often injure my knee doing it. I am also a photographer, I have had my photos in victorian highschool textbooks, nsw council websites, and on a site for english soccer fans which recieves 500000 hits a month just to name a few.
Three people you'd take to a desert island?
I would take a complete stranger from another country who didn’t speak English, so that we could learn from each other. I would take my former boss, a 5 star chef who can make a meal out of mould. Finally I would hold a raffle amongst the people in my grade and the winner would come, because it’s too hard to choose amongst such good friends!
What will you be doing in 10 years?
I will be working in a small design studio or possibly in my own (I already have a licensed business). I will have travelled to Europe by the time I'm 30 and most definitely Japan. I will be still listening to the Beatles, playing my piano and enjoying what my life has to offer.
Why should you win this competition?
If I win this competition it is because other people believed in me and for me to get the top ten means that some already have for which I am thankful. Now if I were to win this competition the reason that I would deserve it is because I would make the most of it. Opportunities do not come to those who wait, but those who strive to achieve. I am a person who would find this experience invaluable, and due to my highly multicultural upbringing I am perfectly suited to it! I have lived with more than 20 different nationalities from a range of cultural and economic backgrounds. If my design is considered worthy for this honour then thankyou so very very much! And if I do not win I am glad to have participated and thank all who voted and commented on my work, because I am sure who ever does win this competition is deserving of it just as much as I am. Cheers.
